INDIAN MOTORCYCLE SIDECAR - VAN

<h1><font color=red><u>What IS IT?</u></font></h1>

<h3>It is called a <b>SIDEVAN</b> and was manufactured by the Indian Motorcycle Company in 1948. Serial Number is VC29148</h3>

<h1><font color=red><u>WHY WAS IT MADE?</u></font></h1>
<p>
<h3>Small and large businesses used these as a way to deliver goods or to carry tools for service. It has a heavier frame than a sidecar and is 10" wider than a sidecar rig. I could never lift the wheel in a corner.</h3>

<h1><font color=red><u>The HISTORY OF <b>THIS</b> VAN</u></font></h1>

<h3>I purchased it about 4 years ago from Indiana and found out that I was decieved! The box part was totally rotten and filled with bondo. I was told that this van was used in the Studebaker plant to move parts from shop to shop. I have no way to prove this one way or the other - but it's a good story. 
<br>I then re-stored the box and wheel assembly.</h3>

<h1><font color=red><u>WHAT I DID!?</u></font></h1>
<p>
<h3>Being in the restoring hobby for 30 years, I knew who to get for the sheet metal and wheel work. I stuck to the original. As to size, manner of Construction but improved on materials. Example: used furniture grade oak vennier ply inside box (original was just ply), wood under frame is oak - as original but clear (no knots).
The wheel and spindle was sent to Jerry Greers in California and John did the bearings, brakes, and spindle. New stainless steel spokes, chrome rim in new tire and tube.</h3>

<h3>The side van rig complete with all hardware to mount to your late model Indian Chief, including a special brake equalizer so the bike, rear wheel and van wheel come on at the same time. I have carried all manner of things in that box.</h3>
